So before I send the big letter, I
wanted to share something interesting that happened. So Elder Fellows and I
went on splits and I went with the Elders' quorum president to visit Joel (the
member in the pictures) in the hospital. He got a kidney infection and asked if
we could go give him a blessing. So we went in the evening on Friday, I think.
We talked to him for a bit and then Hermano Pineda, the elders quorum
president, put the oil and all that. Then I put my hands on Joel's head, and
right after I finished saying his name, the hopsital started shaking! THere was
an earthquake! You could hear people outside screaming, but Joel didn't budge,
so I figured I should finishe the blessing as well. It turned out that the
earthquake and the blessing finished at the same time. I'm not one to believe
in coincidences, but... that was pretty cool hahah.
Dear everyone,
First off, tomorrow we are
going to the temple as a Mission Leadership Council with President Becerra
tomorrow and we get to hear from the temple president there as well. I am super
excited to go. I think the LA temple is one of my favorites. But we have to be
at Arcadia at 5 in the morning, so it might just be the longest day ever... I
am pretty excited for General Conference too.
Nothing super out of the
ordinary happened this past week. We had the earthquake which was pretty crazy.
I was in the LA hospital as that happened! Pretty Crazy! We got to talk to Jose
S. again and it has been very cool to see the change in him from the first
lesson to this time, he was talking about how we are all children of God and
how great He is and all this stuff that I don't even know where he got it all
from. Something really cool was that he told us he has been thinking a lot
about his goal for baptism and that he wants to start taking those small steps
to get there. And the first time, he didn't really have a firm belief in
anything but he mentioned how he knew there had to be a God because of all the
things he has been through! Very cool guy, I am really hoping, praying, and
working so that it will all work out. He deserves it.
Something that stood out to me at
church yesterday was something the bishop said during the last hour. One thing
you have to know about the East LA stake bishops is that they are all very
young. I think the oldest is in his early 40s in the El Molino (Pasadena)
branch. Everytime I see the bishops or talk to them, I always wonder how my dad
was when he was a young bishop in Puerto Rico. Just about a lot of them are
just starting up their careers, families, etc. and on top of that have this
great responsibility to oversee a ward. Pretty crazy.
But anyways! So he was talking to
us about how in order to carry onward, we must have a strong testimony.
Especially if we want to help others do the same. And we can't have this
testimony without doing the things we need to be doing in order to be converted
to the gospel as well. This is something I have been trying to keep in my mind
as I have been out here. Just trying to improve a lot, because I realize
there's a long way to go. I think I got humbled most at the beginning of my
mission, so from then on I have been trying to just be better and help others
do the same. I am very excited for General Conference and all that we get to
learn!
That's crazy how many missionaries
are out from Southlake! Please tell me where Holden goes as soon as you can. I
think I already said this, but it's pretty cool how once you get in, you
realize it's the people you got called to rather than the place...
Love you all! Happy General
Conference weekend!
